Title: The Decentralized Web and its challenges for querying
Location: 0.2.13, Cassiopeia Seminar Room, Dept. of Computer Science, Aalborg University

Abstract: By now, we are well prepared for a world of Big Data. But what if the future consists of a large number of small datasets? In this talk, I will introduce you to the Solid ecosystem, where every person has their own data vault, based on Linked Data technologies. I will explain the kind of problems this brings, and how queries can bring a solution. However, we will need new fundamental research to make all of this work at Web scale.

Bio: Ruben Verborgh is a professor of Decentralized Web technology at IDLab, Ghent University – imec, and a research affiliate at the Decentralized Information Group of CSAIL at MIT. Additionally, he acts as a technology advocate for Inrupt and the Solid ecosystem wherein people and organizations control their own data. He aims to build a more intelligent generation of clients for a decentralized Web at the intersection of Linked Data and hypermedia-driven Web APIs. Through the creation of Linked Data Fragments, he introduced a new paradigm for query processing at Web scale.
